the New World created the early American colonists was wild why and in many cases completely different to anything any of the settlers had ever seen before each geographical region that was settled had some distinct advantages also pose challenges and it was already inhabited by groups of American Indians the English colonies developed in two main regions the New England colonies the middle colonies and southern colonies the New England colonies were covered with Rich florist and abundant with animal life settlers in these colonies regularly interacted with Indian groups such as the wampanoags and the P quote many of the colonists who settled in this region had to become self-sufficient later developed the ability to produce most everything that they need the cold climate in Rocky terrain made farming difficult in the New England colonies Commodus relied on the resources they didn't have Timber Wild Game and Fish because of these resources love you ship building fishing and the fur trade became important industries for the New England colonies the middle colonies region offered good land for farming natural Harbors for shipping and inland waterways for the region was originally home to American Indian groups such as the Delaware and was settled by people from the Netherlands and Sweden the settlers build trading centers and began exporting furs better settlers from England moved to the area and began to rely on farming not the forest for food many farmers were even able to grow enough that they had extra left over to sell Harbor towns like New York and Philadelphia became busy seaports shipping Goods to and from Europe This trade generated wealth and helped colonies grow and prosper the southern colonies were home to Indian groups such as the and Creek settlers who move their found the area was well suited for agriculture the region had mild Winters and a long growing season which was ideal for growing crops such as rice tobacco and indigo which is a plant used to make up blue dye these are known as cash crops because they're grown specifically to sell not to use for food and these cash crops were going to hide the man throughout Europe which made them very the farmers in the southern colonies became dotted with plantations large Farms with many workers who lived on the land they worked looking back it is easy to see the role geography played in the colonial America from Rich Forest of New England Groot Industries around logging shipbuilding and fur from the farm Lands End wide harbors of the middle colonies grew cities and Trade Centers warm Wilds of a southern colonies sprung cash crops that created great wealth in many ways it seems it was the environment the geography of the land itself to help determine the path each colony would follow
