General Washington Thomas Jefferson Paul Revere Benjamin Franklin you might recognize these names of all the fear of leading up to and during the Revolutionary War but did you notice something missing these are only the names of men women were also important to the Patriots fight for independence throughout the American Revolution women played key roles and keeping the economy running supporting the war effort and sometimes even going to the battlefield women were all so important in the boycotts of British goods after the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act Sarah bradlee Fulton is sometimes known as the mother of the Boston Tea Party because it was planned in her home soon after the Tea Party in Boston the women of Edenton North Carolina held their own Tea Party 2 Pro chance the British tax on tea the ladies of Edenton do hereby solemnly engage we will not partake in the pernicious custom of drinking tea Penelope Barker gathered women together to Val not to drink British tea or We're British clothing until Britain ended the unfair tax laws in 1781 some women in Philadelphia wanted to help the soldiers in the Continental Army organize the Philadelphia Association the largest women's organization of the war to show their support for the Patriot cause they make shirts for the soldiers to wear when men went off to fight in the war many women stepped into ant farms and businesses this was important because they kept the economy running smoothly which helps provide money for the war some women wear activist for the Patriot cause and activist is someone who works change Mercy Otis Warren wrote plays that made fun of the British she later wrote the first history of the American Revolution called history of the rise progress and termination of the America Evolution which was published in 1805 another famous writer was Abigail Adams She Wrote many letters to her husband John Adams while he was serving in the Continental Congress in Philadelphia Tour de France and England she wrote about Liberty for all as well as women's right she also gave the Patriots and Fortin information about British troops in her area was John Adams became president known as mrs. president another famous first lady who played a role in the American Revolution was Martha Washington at Valley Forge during the harsh winter of 1778 Martha Health raise the spirits of cold and hungry soldiers Phillis Wheatley help support the Revolution by writing poetry about Freedom patriotism and the Injustice of slavery she became the first published African American Author when her book of poetry under a subjects religious and moral was published in 1773 women were not allowed to serve in the continental army they found other ways to fight for their country 16 Sybil Ludington was known as the female Paul Revere she rode on horseback to warn the Patriots that the British were approaching Fredericksburg New York Deborah Sampson serve the Army more directly Sky's yourself as a man and enlisted in the army and fought in the Continental Army for about two years until she was discovered and released from Duty women and children traveled with their husbands unit during the war water out to the battlefield one such woman was Mary Ludwig Hays who became known as Molly Pitcher when according to Legend she helped fire cannons at the British during the Battle of Monmouth throughout the Revolutionary War women played an important part in the fight for independence and on the San Francisco patient in the war effort how to Patriots win their freedom from Britain and become the independent nation of the United States of America
